Wadi el-Alaqi covers a vast area between the Red Sea mountains and the Nile Valley. Downstream, the valley has been inundated by Lake Nasser (this area is known as Khor el-Allaqi). The valley is an important wetland area for wintering wildfowl. Here you’ll find the Nile Monitor, Varanus niloticus, Nile Crocodile, Crocodylus niloticus, and the Nile Soft-shelled Turtle, Trionyx triunguis.
