Located on the southern end of Elephantine Island; the temple of Satis is dedicated to the Goddess Satis also known as Satet, however her partner Khnum (the Ram Headed God) and her daughter Anket were also worshipped at this temple. At least ten rulers, from the early dynasties to the Ptolemaic, either added to or restored the temple; some of them are Pepi I, Mentuhotep II, Thutmose III, and Hatshepsut. This temple has some fascinating reliefs. Make sure you notice the Nilometer carved into the river bank, which indicates the level of Nile flooding, and one of the rare times that a carving of face in the stone is portrayed in full frontal rather than the usual profile image that we see in Ancient Egyptian art.
