Taba Protected Area is the northernmost protected area in South Sinai with desert landscapes, steep-walled wadis and high mountains. It is one of the most untouched areas in South Sinai and includes critical environments such as freshwater springs. Nawamis, the oldest stone-roofed buildings in the world, are found here.
Sinai Leopard, Panthera pardus jarvisi, may still be extant in the protectorate. Black Eagle, Aquila verreauxii, breeds here and possibly the rare Lammergeyer, Gypaetus barbatus. Twenty-four species of reptiles and up to 480 species of plants are also found in Taba.
