For a cultural/gastronomic experience in Alexandria, pay a visit to the legendary “Pastroudis” Greek Restaurant, at the intersection of Horriya and Fouad Streets.

Pastroudis is the name of a Greek adventurer who settled in Alexandria and established a bakery in 1923. The locale was expanded later to become a pastry shop and restaurant, where elegant Alexandrians used to spend their mornings and evenings, sipping on a cup of tea or coffee, and sampling some of the city’s best pastries and sweets. The restaurant has been renovated recently, but the decoration and furniture kept that retro style that will transport you back to Alexandria’s heydays. The restaurant’s menu includes typical Greek dishes, but also a few newly added Asian options.

The place is proud to have had hosted regularly King Farouk in the 1940’s. The Egyptian president Sadat was also a regular customer of the shop, according to the owners.
